History
The Perth Fair celebrated its 175th Anniversary in 2022. The Fair is presently held under the auspices of the Perth and District Agricultural Society. However, the name of the Agricultural Society has changed a few times since its beginnings. To get a clear picture of the Fair’s early years we have to take a brief look at the history of Lanark County and the formation of Agricultural Societies in Upper Canada.
We acknowledge that the land that the Perth Fair is held on the ancestral and unceded territory of the
Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. We gratefully recognize the knowledge and care of this land by many
generations for thousands of years, and the work they continue to do so today. We respect their rich
history and culture, and are mindful of the unjust acts that have been committed and the need for
reconciliation.
We are grateful for the opportunities this land afforded us, may we go forward in a spirit of love, peace
and friendship, as we all continue to care for the land and preserve it for future generations. May we lift
up our neighbors and celebrate our differences, learn from each other and speak truth in solidarity.
