TEAM CATTLE PENNING

Saturday, September 4, 2010

12:00p.m.

Team Cattle Penning is the fastest growing western horse sport in North America, and the Perth Fair is

proud to be part of the fast paced action and excitement.

This is a sport for men & women of all ages, and holds appeal for anyone with a fondness for horses and a love of the outdoors.

This fast paced, exciting event gives a team of three riders 90 seconds to separate three specifically numbered cattle from a herd of twenty-one. After the necessary cattle have been separated they must be driven into a small pen located at the opposite end of the arena. And, to make things more difficult, no more than four cattle are allowed across the foul line at one time, or more than two of the wrong number; or the team is automatically disqualified. Teamwork is of the essence; individuals must work together like a finely tuned machine to achieve the desired result - the fastest time with the most cattle penned.

RANCH CATTLE SORTING

Sunday, September 5, 2010

11:00a.m.

Ranch cattle sorting is an up and coming western horse sport. As in team penning this is a sport for men & women of all ages, who enjoy the challenge of working with cattle.

Ranch cattle sorting is slower paced than team cattle penning, but challenges the riders on their cattle skill

& timing. Although sorting is slower than penning, it holds as much entertainment for the spectators and riders. In ranch cattle sorting there are 10 numbered cattle, & 2 horse/rider combinations, working in 2 60' round pens with a 12' gap between pens. The objective is to move the cattle from one round pen to the other in

the correct numerical order using extreme cattle sense to cut out the correct cattle and to turn back all the others. The event challenges both riders in their skills of working with cattle and working as a team to effectively complete the event by moving the cattle in less than 2 minutes. The team with the most cattle moved in the least amount of time wins the event.

·      Entries for both events are at the ring office,

and close 1 hour prior to start time, with no exceptions.

·      Helmets are required for competitors under 18

years of age.

·      Perth Fair membership is required to compete

($5.00 per person).
