HOW TO ENTER AT THE PERTH FAIR

 

OPEN TO ALL CHILDREN IN PERTH & DISTRICT

 

 

*      Pick the sections you want to enter. You may only enter one item in each section.

*      Fill in the entry form with all the information requested.

*      Mail or bring entry form (not your entry) to the fair office before August 25th, and we will process your tags.

*      You may email ALL information required to office@perthfair.com. Please also check the website www.perthfair.com for entry forms and sending them in through the website.

*      When the office receives your entry form your TAGS will be printed.

*      You must have a tag for each exhibit - it is best to order a tag for every section you think you might enter. If you do not use all of them, that is okay.

*      Tags must be PICKED UP at the office by Aug 31/10. THEY WILL NOT BE MAILED.

*      Bring your exhibit with the tag attached to the Homecraft building on the fairgrounds on Thursday, September 2nd,between 7:00p.m. & 9:30 p.m. ONLY.

*      Judging will take place Friday, September 3rd, 9:00 a.m.

*      You must pick up your entry(ies) on Monday, September 6th  between 4:00 & 5:30 p.m. We will dispose of entries not picked up.

*      Prize money cheques will be mailed to you AFTER the fair.

*      One name on each entry form – (a sheet of paper with ALL information on it is okay) if someone else needs an entry form.

*      The Fair Office is located on the fairgrounds in the green JAYCEES/AGRICON BUILDING.  During the month of August someone is usually in the office 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. You may leave your entries in the outside mailbox - they will be processed on the next working day.

PERTH FAIR JUNIOR DEPARTMENT

 

 

All exhibits are the responsibility of the exhibitor.  All articles must be brought to the Homecraft building on the fair grounds between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 2nd , 2010 and remain until Monday, September 6th, 2010 to be picked up between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. on that day. Entries that are not picked up with be disposed of.  Tags must be obtained in advance . Articles must be new work - not shown before!  Grades are based on the grade you are in while attending school in June 2010, not the grade you are going into in September 2010.

PRESCHOOL/ KINDERGARTEN

801 - 1.     A coloured drawing of “Me” – paper no larger than 8 ½  x 11 inches.

801 - 2.    Decorate a child’s rubber boot.

801 - 3.    Make a sock puppet.

801 - 4.    Decorate an egg carton or portions of an egg carton to look like an insect.

SPECIAL

801 - 5.    Penmanship – on an 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper print “Ff”  and then “Family”.

GRADES 1 & 2

801 - 6.    Create a paper quilt by gluing pieces of paper on an 8 ½ x 11 paper (pieces of paper may be coloured, painted, from a predesigned paper, from a magazine, etc).

801 - 7.        Make an insect/bug collection using hard and soft candy – mount on a paper plate - a collection of no more than five bugs/insects.

801 - 8.       Using blown out eggs create farm animals, mount on a paper plate - no more than 4 animals.

801 - 9.      Create a building using dry food (ex: cereal, popcorn, pretzels, pasta, etc) mount on cardboard no larger than 12 x 12.

SPECIAL

801 - 10.   Penmanship - with an 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper be creative and draw your family tree - will be judged on penmanship.

GRADES 3 & 4

801-11.      Make pipe cleaner animals, no more than five, mount on a paper plate.

801-12.    Make a farm scene, display in the lid of a box - no larger than 12 x 12.

801-13.    Use your imagination to create an original vehicle out of Lego, display on a mount no larger than 12 x 12.

801-14.    Penmanship – decorate an 8 ½ x 11 paper with a Heritage theme and print an original poem about Perth Heritage, no longer than 10 lines.

SPECIAL

801-15.    Decorate a gingerbread man cookie, will be judged on appearance.

GRADES 5 & 6

801-16.    Using duct tape create a creature, use embellishments for face only, mount on a paper plate.

801-17.    Create a bumper sticker promoting Perth Fair, no larger than 20 x 30 (no computer art please).

801-18.    Make a necklace using beads and embroidery floss.

801-19.    Make a paper-mache hot air balloon with basket (please have an attachment at the top of balloon to hang entry from.

SPECIAL

801-20.    Make a plasticene picture in a shoe box lid.

GRADES 7 & 8

801-21.    Mount your funniest photo on a paper no larger than 12 x 12, include a caption and embellish.

801-22.    Make a computer generated poster promoting Perth Fair on a paper no larger than 8 ½ x 14.

SPECIAL

801-23.    Decorate a cupcake(s) - no more than 3, will be judged on appearance.


EXTRA SPECIALS PRIZE MONEY 1st $15.00, 2nd $6.00, 3rd $4.00

OPEN TO Preschool, Kindergarten & Grades 1, 2 & 3

801-24.     A Rice Krispie fall leaf - displayed on cardboard no larger than 12 x 12.

OPEN TO GRADES 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8

801-25.     A Rice Krispie fall leaf - displayed on cardboard no larger than 12 x 12.

801-26.   Best Lunch Box Snack - home made squares or bars JUNIOR EXHIBITORS ONLY 12 YEARS AND YOUNGER.

PERTH FAIR POSTER CONTEST

We invite you to enter our poster competition.  Entries are to be brought to the Homecraft building between 7:00 p.m. & 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 2nd. This is your opportunity to create an exciting and imaginative poster. There are three CLASSES of competition.

THEME: My Favourite Fair Experience

802 - 1      Ages 6 – 8 – Draw a picture of your favourite Perth Fair experience.

802 - 2       Ages 9-11 – Draw a picture of your favourite Perth Fair experience.

802 - 3       Ages 12-14 – Paint a picture of a Heritage farm scene.

The entire bristolboard should be coloured. Bristolboard is to be CUT TO 22" x 14".  Entries will be judged Friday, September 3rd, 2010 and will be displayed at the fair. PRIZE MONEY in each of the 3 classes: 1st $20.00, 2nd $16.00, 3rd $12.00, 4th $8.00, 5th $5.00


The following classes have been added to our prize list for our Junior Exhibitors. These classes also require tags.

 

LARGE VEGETABLES  (15 years & under)

501 – 1.  Giant Onions, judged by weight.

501 – 3. Sunflowers, judged by diameter of head, stem to be cut off at ground level & leaves on lower 3 feet removed.

All sunflowers in 501-3 are automatically entered in Sunflower special for Tallest Sunflower.

501 – 5. Multi-head sunflower any variety, judged on number of open heads on plant.

501 – 6.    Zucchini, judged by weight.

501 – 8.    Beet, judged by weight.

501- 10.     Giant Pumpkin, judged by weight. All pumpkin entries become the property of the sponsor for display purposes.

501 - 12.    Large vegetable special. Any unusual large vegetable other than current categories, must not be crossed with another variety.

JUNIOR GARDENERS ( 12 & under)

601 - 34.       Collection of garden vegetables for junior gardeners. Displayed on or in a container no larger than 24”x 24”, judged on quality, number of varieties and arrangement.

601 - 35.  Cut flower arrangement for junior gardeners. A mixed bouquet in a vase.

Open to all children 10 years & under.

601 - 36.       Vegetable People. Any combination of just vegetables to create a vegetable person. Must be titled.

flowers (15 years & under)

701 - 41.  Down on the Farm - an arrangement in a clay pot, with farm machinery and farm animals included (these could be cuts outs from a catalogue or small toys.)  Pot not to exceed 10”.

Home BAKing (15 years & under)

702 - 43.      Cupcakes decorated for a birthday - 3 - judged on decorations only.

702 - 44.      Chocolate chip cookies, without nuts, 3, recipe attached. Winner agrees to compete at District 2 level Annual Meeting on October 30, 2010.  Winner from our District agrees to compete at the O.A.A.S. Convention in Toronto in February 2011.


JUNIOR BAKER (15 years & under)

702 - 45. White bread made in a bread machine - 1 loaf , attach recipe & proof of purchase. MADE WITH FLEISCHMANN’S YEAST

GOODS (16 years & under)

703 - 47. Strawberry Jam (Frozen) 250ml bottled

Young HANDICRAFTers Ages 8 - 14

705 - 48.  Izzy Doll - knitted - S.M.A.

705 - 49.  Scarf - use your imagination - knit or crochet-SMA

705 - 50. Any article made from recycled material - S.M.A. include picture from original item.

Junior hobby crafts

706 - 30.  “ I made it!” Ingenious recycling.

706 - 31.  Computerized invitation for a beach party.

706 - 32.  Create an Inuksuk, not larger than 10" in any direction.

706 - 33.  Rustic handmade Christmas decoration.

706 - 34.  Scrapbooking - My Vacation 1 page, includes a story or description as part of the page.

706 - 35.  Homemade shopping bag - S.M.A. or S.Y.A.                        

JUNIOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

707 - 10. Grandparents – Photographer must be 16 years old or under as of September 3 , 2010.  

 


ROBERTSON AMUSEMENTS

BICYCLE CONTEST

 

 

Each exhibitor in the Junior section and the Poster contest will be given a ticket for each entry they bring to the fair to win a bicycle that has been donated by our midway

ROBERTSON  AMUSEMENTS.

 

 

You will receive your ticket(s) on Thursday, September 2nd, when you bring your entries to the Homecraft Building. The winner will be drawn on Friday, September 3th, 2010.

 

 

The name of the winner and the bicycle will be

 displayed throughout the fair.

The bicycle can be taken home on Monday, September 6th, at 4:00 p.m., when exhibits are picked up.
